Rapeseed crushing (presning rapsfrø)

Rapeseed can be crushed industrially to form rapeseed cake and rape seed oil.

Process description

The present data refer to rapeseed crushing in Århus Olie (Denmark) in 2001. The main production processes are following: 1) Rapeseed is delivered to the factory in trucks, 2) rapeseed is screened and impurities are removed, 3) the seeds are rolled and heated 4) oil and cake are separated by pressing, 5) oil remaining in the cake is extracted with hexane and hexane is regained by condensation, 7) rapeseed oil is refined and rapeseed cake and oil are stored for distribution.

Data collection and treatment

Data have been derived from Aarhus Olie's green account 2001.

Technical scope

Production processes related to rapeseed cake and oil are included. Chemical consumption except hexane has been ignored. Emissions to municipal wastewater treatment plant are low and have been ignored.

Representativity

Aarhus olie is a major supplier of rapeseed oil in Denmark and the data are very representative to rapeseed oil production in Denmark.

Validation

Exchanges with environment are lower than previously observed by Mortensen et al. (1997). This can be explained by environmental management activities in the factory over the past years.
